Julia Coulmas

As a soloist of Clearwater (Florida, USA) Sunstate Opera (now known as Tampa Bay Opera),  Julia Coulmas (soprano) sang in many roles : Violetta (La Traviata) , Mimi (La Boheme) , Nedda (I Pagliacci) , Adele (Die Fledermaus) , Gretel (Hansel and Gretel) and Cio-Cio-San (Madama Butterfly). From 2008-2010 she sang Helmwige (Die Walküre) and Waldvogel (Siegfried) as part of Richard Wagner's Ring Cycle, and the goddess of love (Orpheus and Eurydice) with the New Century Opera of Tarpon Springs, Florida under the direction of Constantine Grame. In 2002, Julia Coulmas founded the "Youth Opera Appreciation". The organization lectured on various operas for children and adults in community centers, libraries and schools. Julia continues to add to her project "The Song of a Nightingale - The Bidu Sayão project", the basis for a planned multimedia performance.

Her first full opera as artistic director was Pagliacci in October 2015 as a private performance organised as a study project with fellow colleagues who wanted to learn the roles which lead to the founding of the Düsseldorf Lyric Opera e.V. in 2016.  Since then the organisation has grown with much success and community support as an organisation which supports professional artists to further their studies in a real working environment. The Lyric Opera has given many opportunities to artists looking to explore roles or audition pieces within themselves in a workshop environment to help cultivate the connection between the artist and their own expression and interpretation. Since the founding of the organisation, Julia has organised, directed and produced over 60 concerts including Pagliacci, a black light Magic Flute with chamber orchestra and soon a La Boheme October 27th 2019.
